Following last week first session coverage, here’s what I’ve got from my third illustration classe. Tonight we had the opportunity to give a try at collage. It’s been messy but monsterly fun.
2009 is starting “sur les chapeaux de roues” (warning, this is a French expression, litterally: on the tyres’ hats) professionnaly-wise as I’ve just spend 3 weeks 90% focused on deadlines and… deadlines! But fortunately my recently reanimated hobbies help me to refresh my brains when it gets too hot.
Since a couple of weeks I’ve started my first ever illustration course at City Lit in London. Each Friday, during 3 hours, the illustrator, Dee Shulman, is bringing a small group of people to understand and practice everything about children’s books illustration. After two sessions – and one missed, thanks to deadlines :) – I have to say: I love it!
During last November I’ve been involved in Movember, a charity to raise money for prostate cancer research. The idea is to grow a moustache during November with a wet shave on the 1st and a continuous trimming until the 30th. I’ve been part of an hairy team of work mates and the whole experience as been very funny and charity-efficient as we raised more than one thousand pounds at the end.
My first thought about the last Illustration Friday topic was that it will be quite inspirational but, finally, I went a bit further in the concept than expected and choose to sketch a guy who, after pretending too much, see his face on a mirror and don’t recognize himself… so he get surprised or even scared.
Here’s an illustration of how television can become a daily collective drug. Me and my partner used to fall on it before we realised how much time we spent watching crap programs one after another on a daily basis.
Here is an illustration done for the release of Little Big Bouche‘s first demo, the French Gypsy jazz trio I have been playing with for a few months now. As the artwork shows above, Aurore does the vocals, Yann is the guitar soloist and I do the comping. We play in the Django Reinhardt style, but, thanks to Aurore, we have vocals for both lyrics and improvisation on top.
Here’s my feeling about the last Illustration Friday topic: Vacant, or how to get very bored and depressed because of doing nothing or having no interest in anything. It’s not fun but it can happens sometimes. That’s why it’s so important to stay busy and to do stuff!
