
I really believe in breakfast as a way to set the tone for the day. And I think an orange can play an important role in that.
That could have been my brief for this illustration. But as usual, I didn’t bother having one. The approach was familiar: pause, grab sketchpad and pencil, sit down, sketch whatever comes. It started with oranges, so I followed that thread.

I like those early sketches a lot, especially the little orange slices. I tried to push them somewhere and failed miserably. Left it to sit for a while. Still nothing worth sharing.
Then came the usual morning routine. A clementine and a banana were looking at me from the table. I cut the clementine in two, no offence. That opened up a few compositions to play with. The second one was an instant winner.
